It's Carnival Time!

It's Carnival Season in New Orleans, one of my very favorite times of year! The city is so full of fun, festive energy, and even though we are a month away from Mardi Gras, the parties and balls are all in full swing!

My nieces and nephew are riding in their very first parade this year, and their Krewe is having its annual Mardi Gras ball this weekend. I never miss an opportunity to dress up in black tie! This year I was wondering how dressing for the ball would change being that I will be 19 weeks pregnant, but I was able to find a very Audrey-esque floor length black column gown that fits like a glove, and I feel fabulous in it! Lots of pictures to come next week after our upcoming fun-filled weekend in the city.

In the meantime I have been indulging in all sorts of King Cake related goodies (in moderation of course, ahem.) Last weekend Melanie and I visited Sucré for a delicious cup of coffee and their to die for macaroons. The rainbow of colors and flavors were all so tempting, but it was one flavor we were on a mission for. The weather was delightful and we were able to girl talk and enjoy our King Cake macaroons on the beautiful patio.

Melanie picked up one of their fabulous King Cakes for our visit with Jen and her sweet little baby girl Jane :) Isn't it beautiful?!

In other Mardi Gras-related goodness, I recently had Mardi Gras pancakes for breakfast at a local restaurant...

Tried out Blue Bell's Mardi Gras King Cake flavored ice cream....

(which for those who are taste test connoisseurs like me, this is one of the best I've tried! The king cake chunks taste like snicker doodles. Yum!)

I left up one of my Christmas trees again this year, and turned it into a Mardi Gras-themed tree. I think it came out super-cute and will be sure to take more photos soon of all our festive decorations. Matt has been begging me to start taking baby bump pictures, so on Saturday I left him snap a quick picture next to the tree. Here we are, 18 weeks and counting!

Cravings: Salty + Sweet

Pregnancy Cravings....we've all heard the pickles and ice cream myth, and I must say I was curious what my typically easy to please palate would come up with now that I am expecting. Alas, here we are at Week 17, and other than flavored seltzer water, fresh fruit and a lot more sweets than I typically indulge in (soft serve frozen yogurt with fresh strawberries is my current bliss,) I haven't really had any serious cravings.

Then I came across this recipe for Chocolate Covered Potato Chips and nearly fell out of my chair. Don't get me wrong, I am curious as you probably are...but like many salty and sweet combos (peanut butter and chocolate....popcorn and M&M's) I have a good feeling this is going to be a match made in heaven. I will be sure to let you know how they turn out!

Chocolate Covered Potato Chips

by Spoon Fork Bacon

Makes 1 (15 ounce) bag

Ingredients:

1½ cups chocolate chips (milk, semi-sweet, dark is your choice)

1 (15.25 ounce bag) bag ridge-cut potato chips

Directions:

1. Place chocolate chips in a heat resistant bowl and place over a pot of simmering water. (make sure the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the bowl)

2. Completely melt chocolate until smooth and begin dipping the chips, about ½ way.

3. Shake off any excess chocolate and place chips onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper.

4. Allow chocolate covered chips to dry completely before serving.

5. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

Baby Cakes

The good news? Baby cakes sounds great with a lovely, lovely heartbeat ranging between 150-160 bpm!

The bad news? Waiting a few more weeks until the pink or blue news...

My doctor's appointment went great today, but since I am no longer considered high risk, I have to wait until closer to 21 weeks to have my full ultrasound scan, at which time we will find out whether this baby is going to be pink or blue. I was of course a little disappointed, but I completely understand the reasons why.

Back to the great news...The baby and I are no longer high risk! So far all is so good, and I am trying to focus on the positive, that all of the best things are worth waiting for, and baby cakes is just waiting a little bit longer to make his or her announcement. This just gives more time to plan a fabulous gender reveal party too! (I was seriously going to try to pull something off by this Wednesday - haha!)

Thanks for the happy thoughts and your guesses for pink or blue too...and feel free to keep the guesses coming, it's so fun to read your feedback! As long as this little one is happy and healthy, that's really all that matters. I already feel so blessed to be his or her mommy!

Oh Baby! Boy or Girl?

Happy New Year sweet friends! Hope that 2012 is off to a remarkable start for you. Thanks a million for all the wonderful wishes on our happy baby news :) We are still overjoyed and at times it still feels a little surreal! Baby cakes definitely got spoiled with treats this Christmas and it was really fun being able to celebrate with our friends and family, knowing next Christmas season there will be a little bundle of love among us!

My sixteen week ultrasound is on Monday, and there is a good chance if the little one cooperates we might find out BOY or GIRL! Eeek! We will both of course be happy either way, and as much as I would love to have a little mini-Trishy, a sweet baby mini-Matt would be a ton of fun too. :)

My sweet friend Sara posted these old wives' tales on her blog a few weeks ago, and I thought it would be fun to play along too. Here goes!

Happiest Christmas Wishes

Christmas came early, and Santa said we’ve been especially good this year! With hearts full of joy, Matt and I are thrilled to announce we are expecting our first baby in late June!

We have dreamed of this day for a long time, and are so very blessed to have had such an amazing year. Now in my second trimester, so far our little baby cakes is looking beautiful and I am feeling great! I cannot wait to share this next chapter in our lives with you all :) 2012 is going to be filled with even more happiness and excitement!

Warm & Cozy Afternoon

I couldn't be more excited for a warm and cozy afternoon off from work today :) I made my own cafe mocha at home by combining Keurig's Donut Shop coffee and Milk Chocolate hot chocolate, a splash of milk and lots of whipped cream. Pure heaven! All bundled up to run a few errands, followed by a candlelight pizza dinner tonight at home by the fireplace with my sweetie, some bluesy-Christmas music, and wrapping presents by the Christmas tree. Friday nights sure have changed a bit over the years, but I am positively giddy about our lazy plans tonight :)

I'll have lots of pics on Monday from our ladies' Christmas tea tomorrow! The Dickens Christmas Tea includes a full meal Tea in three courses with scones, tea sandwiches, savories and canapés, ending with dainty tea desserts. Each course is served with a different Christmas tea. Doesn't it sound delightful?

Pink & Green Thursday - Christmas Edition!

Happy Thursday everyone!

I am the Suburban Princess of The Life of a Suburban Princess and Royal Ribbons and I am so happy to be writing this week's Pink & Green Thursday post on Trishy's blog! I have known Trishy for almost as long as I have been blogging and she is always so much fun to chat with! I knew when putting this post together it had to involve lots of sparkle...so here we go!

First things first...we need to print some stickers and tags!

There is no way I can get ready for Christmas without a big pot of tea!

One lump or two?

In an effort to look like SuperMom I will let you think I made these myself, from scratch.

They go perfectly with a cup of Christmas tea!

Now to sit down and get all of my Christmas cards written.

My list changes every year, and that's ok.

Some people come and some people go...it's the ebb and flow of life.

No house would be complete without a fabulous wreath!

It let's people know you are a nice person!

And crafty too! Or know crafty people!

Now that I have the tree up I need to get all the ornaments on it!

Of course a little glitter goes a long way! I love getting the ornies out each year, I forget about some so it'a always a nice surpise!

It has to be time for a cocktail by now! Right?!

Hmm I better have a cookie or two...must keep my energy up!

Three cocktails in, I decided to finish the tree and set the table! *hic*

Fortunately with just two colours to handle, wrapping presents is easy peasy!

Now to get them under my beautiful Pink & Green Christmas tree!

I will hang my stocking by the fire place - because I've been a very good girl all year! *hic*

We can't forget Santa! You know going around the world in one night is hard work!

Cookies are perfect for Santa and his reindeer!

I hear they especially love cupcakes!

Now that my work is done I think it's time for a cocktail!

Don't you agree?

Merry, Merry holiday wishes to you all! The last few weeks feel a bit like a blur as the holiday season snuck up on me once again this year :) Between work, travel and play, so much happening...but all great things! Here's a little peek at what I've been up to, according to my iPhone and Instagram pics :)

Melanie and I along with our hubbies attended a benefit at Gallier Hall one chilly night in November. There were multiple bands, several auctions and more food and desserts than you could imagine, all from local restaurants and bakeries. They even had a photo booth where we had less than 20 seconds to ham it up in front of the camera, and just minutes later, the footage was turned into little mini commemorative flip books. SO much fun! I wore one of my favorite navy one-shoulder dresses from BCBG with a lavender fur shawl and gold accessories (including my fave Kate Spade bow ring.) Even the chandeliers were all especially twinkly that night!

Cooler temperatures have finally arrived in South Louisiana, and we have spent many mornings bundled up with beignets and coffee at Cafe du Monde, and snuggling with Jolie. I can hardly believe our little pup is almost a year old! We are going to visit my parents in D.C. for Christmas, and Jolie will be making the plane trip with us for the first time. I have her little travel carrier and meds all ready to go. Praying that flight goes well - and quickly! (Any tips on plane travel with pets are most welcomed!)

Lots of holiday parties = need for the perfect party dress. BCBG has been my go to once again with this cute little number above. Super flattering and comfortable too (runs true to size too!) I still love all my colorful Lilly for the holidays, but this grey metallic is totally fun and the gold flecks make it even more festive. I'm switching it up this season by pairing it with gold shoes and accessories for some parties, and lots of silver for others. I love having options! :)

I had a gift credit at Saks that I have been dying to use, and decided to treat myself to a fun new holiday bag. This Ferragamo clutch in red patent with the gold chain strap is perfectly petite and so darling. I plan on wearing it with jeans for date night too! :)

My holiday cards from the ever-fabulous Nico & Lala arrived, and I just LOVE the way they turned out! More to come on these cute cards, they deserve a whole post on their own!

Last but not least, we have been in full on decorating mode for Christmas. We have really enjoyed getting to decorate our new house this year, and have started some fun new traditions! Once everything is all finished I will share more pictures, but here's a start:

Looking VERY Merry and Bright from the outside! :)

Every girly girl needs an equally girly Christmas tree in her office! When I am not traveling for business I work out of my home office, and this year it was time for the office to have its own very Trishy tree. All of my Lilly ornaments, a Madame Alexander tree topper that I have had for AGES, and cupcake and ice cream garland, with lots of fun treats sprinkled all around. I even catch Jolie napping under the tree while I work sometimes...I imagine she has visions of sugarplums dancing in her head for sure!

My sweet friend Ruthie helped me decorate our front door over the weekend, and it looks even cuter in person :) We wired deco mesh in alternating colors around a lighted garland, and I accented it with sparkly bows and enormous peppermints. The wreath was one my friend Katherine made me last year, and it just went perfectly with this year's door decor!

And finally, here's our Christmas tree so far...almost done, and lots of presents to be added under the tree soon! Since we've had a lot of company lately with little ones under five, and this is our first year with a puppy, I made sure to put all of my Christopher Radko ornaments on very sturdy hooks at the very top of the tree!

I'll be wrapping up my year for work over the next few weeks, hosting a ladies' Christmas tea this weekend, a fun glamorous dinner with friends next week, a fabulous trip to New York next weekend, a huge family holiday party in New Orleans too, a special Washington D.C. Christmas with my family, and then ringing in the New Year in style back in New Orleans. So much excitement, I can hardly stand it!

Another favorite Lilly inspired colored combination, pink & orange, makes for a stylish duo for a bedroom. This girl's room features classic tailored pieces like box pleat valances and upholstered headboards.

Okay, so the toys and little shoes indicate that this is a very sophisticated room for a girl, but take those away and it is a chic pink and white space. The lattice patterned pink rug and pink pouf are great ways to add stylish pink to the décor.

The Lilly lover in me thinks the accent colors in this room should all be kelly green. The pink hanging lantern against the deeper pink and white curtains is beautiful.

Hello November!

I am so happy that we've made it to November, the start of so many wonderful holidays, traditions and celebrations. I am counting down to both Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, for a plethora of reasons. So many blessings have come our way this year, and now that we are settling down and planting roots in our beautiful new home, I can't help but reflect on the last year. I am so very appreciative of all the wonderful things happening in our lives. Those of you who know me, or have been reading this blog for some time, know that the latter half of last year was a difficult one for me. I've seen "30 Days of Thankfulness" floating around the web, and I too am going to take the opportunity this month and highlight some of the things I am most thankful for. Starting today, I'm especially grateful for my wonderful friends and dear readers. Hugs to you old friends, and a warm welcome to the new followers and friends :)

Fun Festive Weekend

Last weekend was a perfectly fall Louisiana weekend, and we were able to celebrate by having my sweet friends Jen and Melanie over for a tour of the new house! I made pomegranate champagne sparklers, which were so fun and festive. Just a little bit of pomegranate juice, a handful of pomegranate seeds, and champagne! We used sparkling grape juice for Jen, who is just a few weeks shy of her due date, and they were equally tasty! Melanie brought me the gorgeous roses from a local florist we both love, they are picture perfect :)

We ventured to the Broken Egg, a delicious restaurant just a hop and a skip away from our new home. Current specials on the menu included sweet potato as well as pumpkin pancakes, and crabmeat and andouille sausage omelettes, it all sounded heavenly! We decided to keep it simple with eggs, english muffins, bacon & eggs, but Jen changed it up a bit, and went with the cheddar grits, pancakes and sausage...love the sweet and savory combo :) It was all so wonderful, and we got to eat outside together with the sun on our backs, and a nice breeze right off the lake in the air.

Last night I set up in front of our house for Trick or Treat for kids and adults alike :)

I thought it came out super cute!

We had a nice turnout and a fun mix of neighbors stop by, some that stayed until well after 9 PM! I made a white cheddar & walnut spread (recipe courtesy of Melanie) for the adults and served it with pita chips and red grapes. I also made tons of homemade cupcakes and had candy galore on hand for the kids. We had "Bloody Booze" (red wine!) "Tombstone Tonic" (white wine) and a variety of Abita beers for the adults. It was such a hit!

Miss Jolie was angelic and pranced around the yard in her pink polka dot bow and fairy princess puppy costume. We're still getting her used to being around little kids...sometimes she gets a little snippy but she really behaved well...and was of course she was stinkin' cute :)

Darling Dresses for Tailgating Season

Last Saturday was Homecoming at my husband's alma mater in Mississippi, and like any girly girl, I love any excuse to get dressed up! Imagine how tickled I was when I came across The Laughing Giraffe on Etsy...adorable a-line dresses with the most perfect ruffled neckline and contrasting colored sash. The owner Linda was as sweet as can be, and when I told her the school colors I needed, she immediately emailed me with a custom listing for the dress below. I was instantly sold!

The dress arrived beautifully packaged and fit perfectly. For sizing I would order a size down from your normal size due to the shape of the dress. I ordered the dress in an XXS and Linda took the length up to 30", which on me hit slightly above the knee :)

Such a wonderful weekend spent relaxing after a long but successful business trip to Chicago. Yesterday was full of lots of fall decorating, and I thoroughly enjoyed adding chocolate, leopard, orange polka dot & hot pink grosgrain ribbon to my pumpkins around the house...more pictures to come soon. :)

I found these heirloom pumpkins on our front porch at a local market and they make me so happy. The bows add the perfect touch, don't you think?

Off to Salt Lake City this morning, then Orlando through the end of the week. Not easy to pack for two different climates in one suitcase! Hope all is well where you are :) Try the Salted Caramel Mocha at Starbucks - I had one for the first time last week and it was divine...Perfect Fall beverage!

New Home First Look

Well hello October, my how you snuck up on us this year! It's been an absolute whirlwind the last six weeks as we made the final steps in purchasing our new home, packing and making the move, and now slowly taking our time settling in. Naturally I wanted to have everything perfect, artwork hung on the walls, fall decorations out on display and a million other things before showing you all pictures, but life has been crazy and I will be gone for the next two weeks on business, so here is a start! :) (You can click to enlarge the pics.)

This is the beautiful stucco fireplace in the main living area, it is even prettier in person if you can imagine. The fireplace was originally wood burning, but it has been converted to gas, which works pretty well for us being that we don't need to use it that often...more for ambiance since it doesn't get too cold here in South Louisiana! The marble top coffee table was a gem I found at a local antique store, it is amazing how perfectly the wood matches the rest of the cabinetry.

The lovely floral arrangement was an Anniversary gift from my parents, and the coffee table books are a small selection from my library. I love changing out the books frequently depending on the season and mood.

I just love how open the living room area feels, it is so peaceful. Our lot is on almost two acres, and in the backyard we back up to a small bayou that runs into Lake Pontchartrain. We cannot build on it, but it is extremely quiet and relaxing listening to the leaves rustle in the trees and hearing the sounds of nature all around.

Above are the front foyer and entrance to the dining room. The antique gilded carved wooden chandeliers are absolutely incredible and make such a statement when you walk into the house. They might be one of my very favorite parts of the house! A majority of the floors in the home are blond travertine, which I was a little uncertain about initially, but we had them polished and sealed and they are gorgeous! Very easy to keep up so far too with minimal upkeep.

A few Tiffany treasures on display and a fully stocked bar, we're ready for a party! :)

This is the view of the kitchen from the dining room, it is such a warm and cozy kitchen. I have thoroughly been enjoying cooking again, and whipped up two fabulous dinners this weekend that I will have to share the recipes for soon!

The custom stucco hood in the kitchen is stunning.

I love the way the light flows throughout the house...even on rainy days the house has such a sense of warmth to it. The granite in the kitchen is a beautiful blend of silvers and golds.

I did manage to put out a few fall decorations over the weekend! I love the way these glass pumpkins play off of the colors in the kitchen and in the pendant lights.

Here's one last shot of the living area again from the kitchen nook. The entertainment center was custom built to match the kitchen cabinets and really ties the area together, I adore it. Since Jolie has pretty much claimed my new chaise lounge as hers, I was having to tip toe around her napping to snap these photos :) Couldn't help but include a picture of my sweet puppy. Can you believe how big she has gotten?

Pink & Green Thursday: The Prettiest Balloons

Aren't the balloons above just the prettiest and happiest things you have ever seen? I thought so too! I've had a huge crush on these enormous balloons forever now, and lo and behold they are by a fabulous company called Geronimo Balloons. Geronimo was founded by Certified Balloonatic and Master Balloon-Trooper, Jihan “Jihanimo” Zencirli, as a way to celebrate friends’ and families’ lives in her hometown of Seattle in 2010.

Six Years

Six years ago today I woke up early on a Saturday morning, full of butterflies and the most excitement I could ever imagine. I will never forget stepping into my beautiful wedding gown and turning around to see myself in the mirror donning my incredible cathedral length veil. I was giddy and nervous and just couldn't wait to see my groom. When we arrived at St. Matthew's Cathedral my father and I shed a brief happy tear and long embrace in the back of the limo, and before I knew it we were walking down the aisle toward my handsome best friend. It was the most incredible day as two families became one and we were surrounded by their warmth and love. Our best friends celebrated our past and toasted to our future, and we danced under the pink glow of the reception tent for hours and hours. I still feel like the luckiest girl in the world, and it's true, time really does fly when you're having fun.

Happy, Happy 6th Anniversary, my love...Thank you for all you do to continue to support our hopes and dreams. Here's to a lifetime of happily ever after...I love you always and forever!

Home Sweet HOME!

It's official....Welcome to our petit château!!!

We closed this morning on this beautiful new home and we are absolutely over the moon. Can't wait to get settled in to our home sweet home over the next few weeks...Jolie is looking forward to running around the big back yard and barking at the tree frogs ;)

So many joyous celebrations to be had over the years to come, and we couldn't be more grateful to be at this point in our lives. Thanks a million to everyone for your sweet comments and support!

It's Moving Time!

Tomorrow we will close on our new home (YAY!!) and all I can think about these days is making our big move again next week. Thank goodness this is going to be our last move for a very long time. After six moves over the last seven years, I have to say we are getting pretty good at this though! Below are a few tips that I have found especially helpful over the years...moving can be such an overwhelming and stressful experience, but with a little planning and organizing it can make things go much smoother in the end. Hope these might help you, or someone you know who is moving too!

Tips for Staying Organized While You Move

1) Purge. Moving is the perfect opportunity to lay your hands on all of your belongings. Give them the critical eye. Is it useful? Is it beautiful? Does it make your life better? If the answer to all of those questions is no, then get rid of it. Don't make the mistake of thinking that you might find a place for it at your new house. Odds are if you didn't like it enough to find a place for it at our current home, you won't find a place for it at your new home either.

2) Begin early. It is never too soon to start packing before a move. There are many things in your home that can be boxed up in advance and not missed. Seasonal items, toys, seldom used kitchen appliances come to mind first. Even decorations and pictures can be boxed up a month or more in advance. Find one area of your home to store the packed boxes.

3) Quantity. You will need more boxes than you think. Look around objectively at all of your things. Estimate how many boxes you think you will need to use. Double that number and it will probably be a good place to start. Do the same for the packing tape.

4) Think of your back. Remember, don't make your boxes too heavy to lift. There is nothing worse than struggling with boxes that are too heavy.

5) Like with like. Begin packing a box in one room and finish packing in the same room. No matter how tempting it is to just fit that one random item into that space in the box, resist the urge.

6) Label it. Label your boxes with the room they are going to in your new house, not necessarily the room they are in at your current house. Colored dot stickers are perfect for having a visual reminder. Each room has a different color dot. When you arrive at your new home stick a corresponding colored dot on the door of the room. When people are helping to carry in your boxes they won't have to pause and ask each time where you want it to go.

7) Mark it. With a permanent marker write on the outside of the box exactly what is contained in the box. Even if you think you will remember. You won't. Heck, by the fiftieth box you pack you won't even remember why you wanted to move in the first place.

8) This leads me to, mark all sides of the box. It might seem like overkill, but I assure it is not. Invariably one of your helpers will stack the boxes in the corner of the room with the labeling facing the wall. You don't want to have to move the boxes or climb on top of them just to find out their contents.

9) Get real moving boxes. Craigslist is a great resource for used moving boxes. While it is fine to collect random boxes from stores, they don't fit together as well as moving boxes. This is especially important if you have tight moving van space and/or a long distance move.

10) Use unprinted newsprint to pack fragile items with. You can get the end of rolls from your local newspaper or you can buy rolls from any of the moving van rental companies. While it is fine to use newspaper, the print will rub off on your items and you will have to wash everything on the other end of your move. Decide for yourself if saving a few dollars is worth the hassle.

11) Last On/ First Off, or things you can not live without. These will be in the last boxes to get on the truck and be the first off. Distinguish these couple of boxes somehow from all the others. Paint them red, let the children color them, whatever the case may be so that you can locate these boxes easily in the sea of cardboard.

What should be in these boxes?

Think about the items that you can not live without, or of you have children what they can not live without. Coffeemaker, coffee, DVD player, shampoo, vodka... whatever it is that you will need at your new home before the heavy duty unpacking begins.

Cleaning supplies. Designate one of the last on/ first off boxes to these items. Think hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates, plastic cups, that sort of thing. Inside one of these boxes you also want a big box of black trash bags. Remember all of that paper you just wrapped your things in? Somehow on the other end of your move this paper will multiply.

Bed linens. Most likely you will want to sleep at some point after your move. Make sure that you clearly label your bed linens so that you can immediately make your beds after setting them up. Consider that part of unpacking. You will be happy later that night.

12) Random personal items such as a change of clothes, toothbrushes, that stuffed animal your child can not possibly sleep without, put in one of your suitcases and toss in your car. This is also a good place to put the remote controls, power cords, cameras, and mail. Things you don't want to get lost in the shuffle and were probably using up until the last moments.

Summer's End Toast

The days and weeks of summer have breezed by, almost too quickly this year. So much happening and more changes on the horizon, but these changes are so comforting and thrilling. In just a few weeks we will have closed on our wonderful new home and we will once again begin planting roots. I can hardly believe we will celebrate our sixth wedding anniversary after being in the house for just one week. The Prosecco is already chilling!

An exciting new chapter in our lives, I realize we will spend the rest of our thirties in this house. That if we are so fortunate Matt and I will be bringing our babies home to this house. So many memories to be made and celebrations to be had. It is all so wonderful and overwhelming and I am feeling very grown up these days.

As we juggle it all, the inspections, repairs, budgets, decorating, daydreaming of decadent dinner parties, baking in my new kitchen and entertaining over outdoor BBQ's, finding the perfect spot for the Christmas tree, and a million other things that have been floating around in my head, I'm taking a step back to realize how very, very blessed we are to be at this point in our lives. Everyone's journey is different, and ours has certainly had its unexpected twists and turns over the years; not bad, just different. I am reminded that all of our hard work, sacrifice, prayers, and trust - trust in each other and in God, have brought us here to where we are. Home is really where the heart is, and our hearts just couldn't be happier to be making the final steps to our Home Sweet Home.

I started writing this blog August two years ago, as a little creative outlet and a home for my thoughts and pretty finds. Since then I have met some of the absolute loveliest people imaginable, both online and in person. I am so grateful to each and every person who stops by and reads my blog. Thank you for supporting me and continuing to inspire me!

I'm going to take the next few weeks to focus on personal things with the house, a minor outpatient surgery procedure Friday, Labor Day weekend - a last summer hurrah!, and juggling my job and family commitments. I've got a few scheduled posts and a couple fabulous guest posts lined up too to keep you company in my absence.

In the meantime, a million thanks again. You all mean so much to me. I hope that you all enjoy the last couple weeks of the summer....soak up every last drop! Cheers!

One Kings Lane: New Home Goodies

Naturally since we are in the final stages of operation New Home I am totally giddy about shopping for a few new things to warm up the new house. That being said, since home purchases cost a small fortune, I am looking to save pennies everywhere I can, without sacrificing style and quality. Enter One Kings Lane, a fabulous discount members-only shopping site! I have loved shopping from OKL in the past for fun gifts and occasional personal purchases, but lately I have had some great luck that I wanted to share with you.

These Chelsea Manor 6" distressed crown candle holders are darling and would look great on a bookshelf or mantle, or used as actual candle holders. They definitely will grace my table during Mardi Gras season, that is for sure! They were on sale this week for $25 for the pair.

This Safavieh Gus Dhurrie 8' x 10' woven wool rug was a bigger purchase, but I have been on the hunt forever for a rug like this in the chocolate brown color, and decided to go for it considering the savings. Originally $960, it was on sale this week for $429. I can't wait to see it in our living room, I think it is going to be perfect!

Lastly, with all of the moves we have made over the last five years, I've hesitated on ordering a return address stamp, even though I have oohed and ahhhed over them and given plenty for gifts. This week on OKL, a Three Designing Women custom stamp was on sale for $29, which also included a 60-sheet list pad in preppy pink and green, 50 matching gift enclosure/calling cards, and 10 folded note cards and envelopes. I thought it was a great deal, considering the stamps alone are usually $40!

Hello and Happy Pink & Green Thursday!

After seeing this wedding on Style Me Pretty, although I posted about weddings last week, I couldn't help but showcase such a beautiful wedding this week! After all, it was held at the lovely Pink Palace, a grand estate in Atlanta. The couple hosted an intimate wedding ceremony and reception, complete with a gospel choir, a lavish buffet including Southern and Mediterranean cuisine, and their five beloved daughters as their attendants. Dancing in the courtyard poolside continued late into the night...and I personally love all the flowers and the extra pink spot lights!

Hope all is well and you had a fantastic weekend. August is positively flying by, and I have some exciting news - Matt and I are in the process of buying an absolutely dreamy new home!! We are beyond thrilled! If all goes well we will close and move in by the end of September. Yippee!

Lilly Pulitzer Jubilee Kelby Dress - Size 2

NWOT 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Print, Silk twill dress with 3/4 bell sleeves with silk knot button closure, back zip and beautiful beaded detailing around the neck. I've never worn this dress as the cut is a little narrow through the hips for me; this dress really fits a very small size two or a size 0. Absolutely beautiful colors.

Elizabeth McKay Navy B to B Dress - Size 2

NWT Beautifully rich cotton navy dress with pockets, v-neck front and back and lovely basket weave gold buttons at shoulders and at back zipper. This dress is stunning and could really be dressed up or dressed down. Unfortunately I am petite and short waisted and the dress would require a lot of alterations before I could wear it. Fit is similar to CK Bradley size 2, a little on the small side.

Lilly Pulitzer Seersucker Halter Dress with Ruffles - Size 2

This very gently used dress is truly a unique Lilly dress, a style that we have not seen produced in many seasons! The seersucker fabric is lightweight and the colors are bright and vibrant. You will love the playful ruffles around the neckline that tie behind the neck, this dress will get rave reviews everywhere you wear it! NWT Lilly Pulitzer Pearce Embroidered Dress - Size 0

One of my very favorite Lilly dresses of all time, the scalloped sleevees, allover scalloped embroidery and delicate beading at the neckline. This dress is a LWD instant classic. When I bought this dress in the two it was too large, so I exchanged it for the size 0. The 0 fit great except it was just a little snug in the hips due to the cut. This dress will fit perfectly on a true size 0 or a size two with slim hips. I am sad to see it go, but it is too pretty to be sitting in my closet! Would be a perfect dress for any summer party and graduation too.

Pink & Green Thursday: Midsummer Afternoon's Dream

It is no secret that I have quite a love affair with all wedding related things...but most of all the wedding gown. There is something so magical about the moment that a bride falls in love with her gown, and then pulling together the veil and all of the accessories, and watching the smile on her face as she pictures herself walking down the aisle toward her happily ever after.

Peter Langner, whom I met for the first time almost ten years ago, has been a long time favorite bridal designer of mine. Remember this collection here? Each season he continues to amaze me with his flawless craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. The images and video below are from his June 2011 show in Milan...prepare to have your breath taken away by the incredibly beautiful designs! I especially love the short little pale pink gown. Don't you love the cascading orchids too?

5 Year Old Photo Shoot

I had the opportunity to photograph my cousin's sweet little boy over the weekend for his 5 Year Old photos. We spent some time in the late afternoon under hazy, overcast skies at City Park in New Orleans playing with frisbees, bubbles and balloons. While I have only been shooting as an amateur over the last three years, I have read a lot about the subject and enjoy any chance to practice I can get. Please enjoy the pictures below, I think they came out pretty good!

An Angel Swings in Heaven

Today is a difficult day for me. For those of you who might be new here, one year ago I held the hand of a beautiful, courageous and inspiring woman as she took her last breath and went to heaven.

Lisa, known as our beloved Bumpkin on a Swing, was a true angel to everyone who was blessed to know her. I met her through blogging about a year and a half ago, and a friendship of a somewhat unexpected kind happened practically overnight. It is hard to put into words the way that Lisa knew exactly how to read right into my mind and heart.

She was diagnosed with cancer last July while Matt and I were on vacation in Mexico. Throughout her fear, anxiety and suffering she managed to write this beautiful guest post below while we were away. I will never forget how touched I was by all of the sweet blog friends who wrote guest posts that week, and Lisa's post brought tears to my eyes. That weekend we had our much needed girl talk she told me about her prognosis. I was scared for her, but she was so strong and brave. She giggled about picking out a fancy wig after chemotherapy. I told her I would be there for her no matter what.

Less than three weeks later I got the call from her dear Captain John. Things were not looking good at all. He asked if I could come to Mississippi. I knew in my heart that I needed to be there. Thank goodness I married such a wonderful man who can read my emotions so well. He packed his bags and within hours we boarded the first plane out of town. The cancer had spread like wildfire.

I walked into her hospital room at around 11:00 PM that night and although she was suffering terribly, she smiled the biggest smile, and we cried and we hugged the tightest hugs two people could ever give. Her family and friends were so warm and welcoming to us. During such a painful time, it was not surprising to see how her genuine kindness, laughter and love touched everyone around her. Less than two days later she was gone.

We miss you angel, more than you could ever know. We know that you are smiling down from your beautiful swing in heaven and watching over us. I promised you Matt and I would move back to New Orleans, and we couldn't be happier. Thank you for the smiles, giggles, tears and most of all, thank you for just being you. I love you always and forever.

With Trish, there are so many endearing qualities, a classy lady, a whipper snapper of a business woman with good advice, my biggest cheerleader, a happy when you need it, an atttidue adjustment when you need it even more,

The best part is the giggles, by far..........

I love it when My Captain calls me at work and says,"A box came, it's got pink and green Trish design on it!" The "Trish" design is Lilly, and he doesn't call them Lilly dresses, he calls them "Trish" dresses. Too funny! She embraces, My John's rough around the edges, another reason to love her in my book. We love our couple time with Matt and Trish. Come back, Come back, Come back to New Orleans......

She spreads the sunshine so thick, you have some left over for when you really, really, need it. It's been 10 days, and I still full on smile at just the thought of the things she says.

Can you imagine how tan she is after a week in Mexico? I think we all have the same sentiment of jealousy to say about this, but since I'm over here today, I'm stifling the harshness a bit......

I can't wait till Sunday, I really need some "Trishy Time"

Trish lives it to the fullest, no doubt about that!

That's the way she rolls!

We haven't got around to doing this yet, but ohhhh I can feel it coming on soon....She's so tiny, she'll go higher, I just know it.

You know I knew we had a special bond when I discovered we shop exactly the same. Peek, Scan, Price, and Decide. She keeps the power shopping train moving along, and I hate a lolly gagger when I'm shopping!

Well, it's time to ride off into the sunset now, ya'll do come and visit me at the swing....

The Captain, and I would love to have ya!

Southern Brunch

There's nothing I love more than a leisurely weekend brunch with family and friends....time to sip, nibble and catch up on conversation without too much rushing about. When I came across this beautiful Southern brunch in Traditional Home magazine, I felt right at home and began jotting down notes for my next get-together. Between the unique menu, the lovely table settings, delicious beverages and refreshing desserts, I think everyone on the guest list would be pleasantly satisfied!

Sweet Lucy Bourbon Mint Tea

• 4 cups water

• 4 black tea bags

• 2 tablespoons sugar

• 1 cup fresh mint leaves

• 1-1/2 cups of Sweet Lucy Bourbon Liqueur

• Juice of half lemon

• Juice of half lime

• Fresh mint sprigs

• Lemon slices

In large saucepan, boil 2 cups water. Remove from heat; add 4 black tea bags. Steep 8 minutes; discard tea bags. Add 2 cups cold water and sugar; stir to dissolve sugar. Transfer to pitcher and chill. Add 1 cup fresh mint leaves. Using wooden spoon, crush mint until fragrant. Stir in Sweet Lucy Bourbon Liqueur, and lemon and lime juices. Serve over ice. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs pushed through center of lemon slices. Makes 1 pitcher (about 6 servings).

Below, lovely shortbread cookies packed up to go for guests, tied with a soft bow, a simple handwritten note and boxwood sprig.

It all looks delicious, and those homemade biscuits with ham and peach marmalade have my name all over them! Oh and I can't wait to try the Sweet Lucy Mint Iced Tea :)

I could hardly believe when I flipped my adorable Nico and Lala desk calendar this morning that we were really in August. August! This year has flown by so quickly!

So, I got my very first iPhone about two months ago and I am literally obsessed. I can't believe that I lived without one for so long! I love Instagram for iPhone...isn't it amazing how ordinary things suddenly look more fabulous when one of their fancy filters are applied?
