I completely threw caution to the wind and ate and drank anything and everything my heart desired this week. And it was AWESOME. Between the po-boys, king cake, beignets, muffalettas, fried seafood platters, crawfish, jambalaya, cocktails, bourbon (the list goes ON)...I don't even want to look at a scale for at least a week. Happy to report it was worth every delicious bite.
For starters I blame Commander's.
Commander's Palace Restaurant:
A quiet revolution bubbles inside the aqua blue fantasy like Victorian architecture – inventive modern New Orleans cooking coexists with our Haute Creole. Sense the team’s professional grace clothed in the warmth of the Brennan Family’s brand of hospitality. From your first sip of a Sazerac to your last crumb of bread pudding soufflĂ© – we hope you are pampered and delighted... and go ahead be a little bad... that’s what living in New Orleans is all about.
For those of you who have been...OH. You KNOW how good it is. The French bread...the Creole cuisine...the impeccable desserts...the $.25 martinis. What? Don't believe me? Seriously, best deal in town!!
We took adorable 94-year-old Grandma Josie P. to lunch at Commander's on Ash Wednesday. So much for starting Lent off on the right foot! It was really the only day it worked with our hectic schedule, so we got our ashes and celebrated in style.
(Isn't she PRECIOUS?)
I've been to Commander's many times before; each visit as lovely as the next. The decor is so inviting and the dining rooms, each one unique, represent quintessential New Orleans style. We usually dine in the upstairs Garden room, but there is no elevator, so we ate in the main dining room with Grandma. Once again, they didn't disappoint.
Here's a picture from the Garden room - I NEED those silver bamboo chairs in a bad way. Next is a photo of the adjacent dining room; so very elegant. Loving the grand crystal chandeliers and ceiling medallions.
Trish's Commander's Palace Lunch Menu:
Commander's Creole Gumbo
A rich winter gumbo spiked with dark roux, Louisiana hot sauce and Creole seasonings
Crawfish and Creole Cream Cheese Gnocchi
Grilled crawfish, mushroom 'bacon' and hand rolled gnocchi flambeed with Brandy and Cajun cream
Black Skillet Seared Gulf Fish
Fresh seared fish over a hearty selection of crab boiled vegetables with charred lemon, pressed basil and brown butter vinaigrette
Desserts for the table:
Pecan Pie with Fleur de Sel Caramel Sauce
Ponchatoula Strawberry Shortcake
Creole Bread Pudding Souffle
Hope you lovelies enjoy your weekend. I look forward to catching up next week!
XOXO,
Trish
